Bill Spreitzer

Development Chair

Bill Spreitzer has worked for over 26 years in corporate America in such functions as global supply chain, international business development, global account management, sales and marketing, and human resources. Bill has been a senior partner with Excellerate Solutions, a business coaching and corporate training practice, since August 2007. He focuses his coaching and training in the areas of leadership and team development, employee engagement, energy management for resilience, and career transition.

Bill holds a B.A. degree in business from Michigan State University and became a certified business coach through Resource Associates Corporation’s Coaching Academy in 2009. More recently, Bill graduated from North Carolina State University’s 10 month Business Coaching program in 2015.

In 2016, Bill joined Statarius, a growing leadership development practice in Raleigh, NC, as a senior coach and trainer.

Additionally, Bill co-founded Geek Leadership in 2015 with two PhD partners whose aim is to inspire technical professionals to collaborate, innovate and lead others to get “stuff” done.

Bill lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife Michelle and has two adult children, Krista and Bryan. His hobbies and interests include: reading, golfing, hiking, exercising, watching movies and sports, music, and traveling.

Nathan Summers

Board Member

Nathan Summers has spent 22 years working in communities that provide services to our seniors.

During his career in Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), Nathan has led teams in all service areas including maintenance, security, housekeeping, landscaping, food & beverage, arts & leisure, wellness and administration. Nathan received the award for “Innovation in Customer Service” from the Leading Age of North Carolina; an association that promotes the service and welfare of aging adults. A Certified Aging Services Professional, Nathan has helped three communities receive the important CARF accreditation for CCRCs.

Before coming to Durham, Nathan served on the board of the United Way of Moore County, North Carolina. He was an active member of the Sandhills Kiwanis Club where he served as secretary as well as President Elect. For eight years running, Nathan also chaired the highest grossing fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association that was held in Moore County; a motorcycle “Memory Ride for Alzheimer’s”.

Residing here in Durham with his wife, Kathy, Nathan enjoys his work at The Forest at Duke, walking, motorcycles, watching the NFL, and reading everything from books on leadership to graphic novels.

Julie C. Roseland

Julie spent 14 years establishing, growing, and managing the HR function in organizations that range from venture-capital backed startups in the high-tech industry to a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 manufacturer. She has direct experience in the medical device and diagnostics fields, the clinical trials/CRO industry, state government as well as the nonprofit sector. Julie specializes in strategic HR for small and mid-size firms, helping them ensure that their HR processes are compliant and aligned with the company’s strategy. Julie earned her B.A. from Appalachian State University and holds the Senior Certified Professional designation (SHRM-SCP) from the Society for Human Resource Management.

Julie fulfilled a lifelong goal to learn to snow-ski at 50. She is now an aspiring ski bum!

Kareem Macon

Kareem Macon is Director of Divisional Planning and has worked with Blue Cross NC for over 20 years. He currently serves within the Government Markets division with a focus on Medicare, Medicaid and the Federal Employee Program. He earned his bachelors degree at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Kareem is a native of Durham County and has a passion for serving his community. When able to enjoy leisure time, he loves to spend time with family and friends, travel within the states and abroad and watch his favorite sports teams – UNC Tarheels and the NY Giants.

Dr. Liza Genao

Board Member

Dr. Liza Genao is a geriatrician in Durham, NC and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Duke University Hospital, and Duke Regional Hospital and long-term care at The Forest at Duke. She received her medical degree from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena and has been in practice 10 years. She also speaks multiple languages, including Spanish. She is experienced in skilled nursing facilities and geriatrics/dementia.  

Dr. Michael Delano Page

Board Member

Dr. Michael Delano Page serves as Director of External Affairs, Office of the Chancellor at North Carolina Central University. 
 

Dr. Page has a wealth of expertise working in corporate, community and government relations. In May 2000, he was elected to the Durham Board of Education and was also elected as the first black chairman of its newly merged Board. 

 

Dr. Page also served on the Durham County Board of Commissioners, in addition to his appointment as chairman for eight years. He currently serves on the Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees and Urban Ministries Board. He is the immediate past chairman of the Lawrence and Artelia Perry Scholarship Board of Directors. He has received numerous honors, including the Chancellor’s Merit Award during the 2003 Founder’s Day Celebration at NCCU, and recognition as Tar Heel of the Week by the News & Observer.

 

Dr. Page is the pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Durham and was the executive director of United Christian Campus Ministry. He is the founder and chairman of Antioch Builds Community Inc., a non-profit created and developed to improve the quality of life in the Durham community.    

 

A Roseland, Va., native, Dr. Page holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from NCCU. In May 2000, he was awarded the Master of Divinity degree from Shaw University in Raleigh, and the Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, in September 2011.  

Veronica Root Martinez, JD

Board Member

Veronica Root Martinez joined the Duke Law faculty in 2022 from Notre Dame Law School, where she was a professor of law, the Robert & Marion Short Scholar, and director of the Program on Ethics, Compliance & Inclusion.  She holds a secondary (courtesy) appointment in the Fuqua School of Business in the Management and Organizations area. Outside of Duke, she is currently serving a four-year term on FINRA’s National Adjudicatory Council.  Martinez writes about and researches issues related to professional and organizational ethics, drawing on scholarship from the areas of ethics, compliance, corporate and securities law, workplace law, and equity and inclusion. She investigates the institutional mechanisms that organizations can utilize to (i) promote ethical norms within professional and organizational environments, (ii) improve long-term compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and (iii) encourage the development of diversity and inclusion norms. 

 

Prior to her teaching career, she was a clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and an attorney at Gibson Dunn in Washington, D.C. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and Georgetown University. 

Dr. Yolanda M. VanRiel

Board Member

 Dr. Yolanda M. VanRiel is the department chair of Nursing at North Carolina Central University. She is also a part-time patient placement coordinator at First Health of the Carolinas-Moore Regional Hospital. She has 25 years of nursing experience and 20 years as a nurse educator. More recently, she was a tenured associate professor and MSN Nursing Education Concentration program coordinator at the UNC Greensboro in the Adult Health Nursing Department. She also taught in the Certified Nursing Assistant and Associate Degree Nursing Program at Richmond Community College.
